Why Believe in God?

Reason #32

If man is a product of evolution, why is he still doomed to die after 70 years?

The days of our lives are seventy years;

And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,

Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;

For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

In the early history of man according to the Bible, man lived for hundreds of years. This could have been due to ideal environmental conditions, or his nearness to the time of the immortal Adam who fed on the tree of life. Then man’s lifetime was reduced to about seventy years. It seems odd that evolution would not find greater survival value in increasing the life span of men. Why has our life span stayed within the same limits for at least 4000 years? And why has man not adopted physical immunity to infections and ageing that seem compelled to reduce our life times to three score and ten years?
