Why Believe in God?

Reason #43

The world operates on a 7-day week.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

- Genesis 2:2,3 (NKJV)

Just about every calendar in the world uses a seven day week. Where did we come up with such a scheme for keeping time? The Jews keep the seventh day of the week. The Christians keep the first day of the week in celebration of Christ’s rising from the dead and granting men the promise of immortality. The sabboth means "rest". God wants man to rest at least one day of the week and contemplate Him. But why, if God does not exist and Christ did not rise, does man celebrate God's days of work and rest? Why is God and Christ so pivitol in the history of man?
