Why Believe in God?

Reason #98

God treats us as children, not slaves.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 1:12,13 (NKJV)

God could have created the Universe and let it go with it's own momentum while He went elsewhere. He could have been a merciless tyrant that cared nothing for the feelings of the occupants of His worlds. God could have died and left us on our own. He might not have revealed Himself. We could have been made into perfect little robots that never erred or had a moment of doubt or freedom. We might never have been, considering all the trouble we have become to Him. He could just send us all into oblivion or eternal nothingness. If we were He, we might be tempted to wipe out the failed experiment and start over.

But we are not God, thank God. He is patient and kind and gives us every chance to get right with Him. He treats us as grownups but loves us like children. He is so awesome that the literal sight of Him would kill us. Yet He filters his power to let us get a glimpse of His glory. He fails us not as regularly as we fail Him. He holds onto us as long as we don't fight Him off. He is not a 'loving God', rather He is Love. And we are His blind children.
